The Man Who Supposedly Harassed A Delhi Girl Is Now Arrested. But Is The Decision Fair?

A 20 yr old DU student, Jasleen Kaur, posted on FB page about a man who eve-teased her last week. This happened at Delhi’s Tilak Nagar.

Jasleen mentioned that the man used obscene language after which she threatened to take action against him. Upon which he said – “Jo kar sakti hai kar le. Complaint karke dikha, fir dekhiyo kya karta hun main (do whatever you want to do. File a complaint and then see what I shall do).”

This man (misnomer) made obscene comments on me today at around 8 pm near Aggarwal, Tilak Nagar. He was on a silver…

As you can see, Jasleen took the help of social media to track this man down. The culprit, Sarvjeet Singh, is now under arrest.

We are glad Jasleen took this brave step. However, we are yet to hear the other side of the story. Before the arrest, Sarvjeet posted the following message on Facebook which is forcing us to rethink about the ‘quick’ decision taken by public and police.

What is more surprising is that the Delhi Police has awarded Jasleen ₹5000 for her ‘bravery’, even before investigating the case thoroughly.

Sarvjeet’s parents told a news channel – “Jasleen is an AAP supporter and doing it for political mileage, she just wants to be famous. Our son is innocent, the girl is misusing her political connections.”

To which Jasleen replied, “They are his parents. They are bound to protect him. The victim himself would also never want to go to jail. Even if I belong to a political party, does it validate the case of eve-teasing? The college to which I belong is not a part of Delhi University Students Union and thus I cannot be a part of any university election”.
