  • IWB Post
  •  July 25, 2015

Sushma Verma is just 15 yr old and has become the youngest postgraduate student in India. She now wants to pursue research in environmental microbiology at Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU), Lucknow.

Last month she topped MSc in microbiology from BBAU. Not only this, she has even secured 7th rank in the University Research Entrance Test in environmental microbiology. She tells, “I was attracted to this field when we had to do fieldwork in the fourth semester, or when we would have to do lab work such as isolate Rhizobium bacteria in roots of leguminous plants.”

We’re so happy and proud of you, Sushma.

BBAU vice-chancellor told TOI, “We must encourage her talent. We will give admission to her in the special category. We will give her a hostel seat and scholarship also.”

Sushma is from Lucknow and her father is a cleaner in her college. In 2007, she was recognized by the Limca Book of Records as the “youngest student” to pass Class X when she was 7. Wow!
