Katrina Kaif has long been inspired to use her fame for a good cause and to work on the issue of educating girls, and giving wings to her passion, a non-profit organization Educate Girls has named her as its ambassador.

“For over a decade now, Educate Girls has been partnering with the government in bringing out-of-school girls back to school. I am committed to support Educate Girls in the endeavour to build an India where girls have equal opportunities to access quality education,” Katrina said.

Established in 2007 by prominent woman leader Safeena Husain, Educate Girls has three long-term goals. One is to use existing government data as well as its own door-to-door surveys in its project villages to find all out-of-school girls, second is to increase their enrollment and retention, and above all, to improve the learning outcomes of all children.

It also believes in imparting life skills to girls, so that they become the future ‘leaders’ and helps in the execution of ‘school improvement plans’. One teacher from every school will now be trained in CLT (Creative Learning and Teaching) methods, as decided by Safeena.

Over the last 10 years, the NGO has taken 12,000 villages and over 21,000 schools in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan under its wing, and it works with the government to bridge the gender gap in education. Its immense success can be evaluated from the fact that it has sent 1.2 lakh girls to school so far.

As the NGO’s ambassador, Katrina wants to break barriers to educate girls and understand these roadblocks, particularly in the rural and tribal areas. She also lauded the efforts of Educate Girls in her Instagram post.
