With a chain of petitions and judgments being announced on triple talaq, we update on the latest development.

Some time back, the Muslim Board declared that banning Triple Talaq would result in husbands murdering their wives. It was then decided that a five-judge constitution headed by the Chief Justice J Khehar will decide whether or not the practice of ‘Triple Talaq’ stays. These five judges will belong to five different religions.

The Supreme Court recently asked the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) if a woman can be given an option of saying ‘no’ to triple talaq at the time of execution of ‘nikahnama’ (Islamic marriage contract).

It is the fifth day of the hearing on petitions challenging triple talaq, polygamy and ‘nikah halala’ before the five religion board members, yet nothing has been finalized. Let’s wait and watch in what direction the decision will move forward.
