After Mr. Rajesh Kumar Sharma gets free from his grocery shop, he takes out time to teach the underprivileged kids at near the Yamuna Bank Metro station in Delhi.

His story is extremely inspiring as he has taken charge of more than 300 kids living in the nearby slums who cannot afford to buy books or go to the school.

Every day, without fail, Sharma along with other kind volunteers come to the ‘school under the bridge’ to meet and teach the kids who belong to the families of migrant workers, laborers, rickshaw-pullers, and farmers.

Dhananjay Singh, one of the many people supporting the cause, told TheBetterIndia, “The school has been around for over a decade. Rajeshji has been pursuing his cause relentlessly. It is only in the past few years that he has found more teachers and some media coverage for the school. As it falls on my way to work, I visit the school regularly and try to help in any small ways that I can. I recently gave 500 textbooks and some stationery items like pens, pencils, and diaries. However, I wish I could do more.”

The best part about this unique and free school is that it has an equal mix of both girls and boys who are willing to spend time studying instead of roaming the streets and wasting their time.

The school celebrates festivals and even organizes mini food festivals for the kids who don’t usually get the luxury to easy healthy food.

Sharma is trying his best to make these kids enroll in the government schools so they can access quality books and other necessities including the mid-day meals. We salute his efforts.
