Fashion Talk: Spring-candid with Shipra Goyal
- IWB Post
- January 10, 2015

When you have designers like Shipra Goyal (Founder, Chrisalis Designer Store) in your city, you don’t need to Google fashion trends. We met the fashionista to get you season’s hottest trends.
JWB – How to bring in spring’s goodness to our wardrobe?
Shipra – Shop lots of Pastels. Plenty of them!
Keep the earthen tones for the coming winter. For now, it’s about lighter tones, as I said Pastels, and this can be clubbed with rusted tones and peaches.
JWB – White?
Shipra – Nah! White is for summer. We are a country of long summers, you don’t want to get bored. Do you?
JWB – How to steal the show during this party season?
Shipra – Go asymmetric which is totally in. You can experiment with subtle designs too, like botanical motifs on a neutral base.
JWB – Thank god, Indians have started wearing white at weddings!
Shipra – I know, that’s a relief. (laughs)
JWB – And what if we want to experiment with cuts and structures?
Shipra – This season totally gives you the opportunity. Ditch the boring leggings and switch to pencil or palazzo pants underneath your kameez. Or better, don a peplum top with a skirt!
JWB – Really?
Shipra – Yes, and attend a wedding, I say.
Shipra – Since Jaipur is a little more traditional as compared to other metro cities, we can experiment with anarkali kurtis, as well. Wear them like a maxi!
JWB – What’s your personal style like for this season?
Shipra – Maxi anarkalis with lots of accessories. I am hunting new places from where I can collect exclusive neck pieces. Apart from that, I am determined to wear a lot of oxblood and wine colors.
JWB – Is there a way to update that old wardrobe and use it next season?
Shipra – In case of tights, wearing a crop top with them can get you the Normcore look. When you wear the same tights with a classic polo neck or hand-embroidered kurti in rich color, you are all set to attend an evening gala.
JWB – Aha, we want more such ‘switch day look into evening look’ tricks.
Shipra – Throw a blazer over and wear either bold red lips or grunge eyes. That’s what I do when I don’t have time to go back home & change.
JWB – You have 2 sons, and having 3 men (including your husband) around, don’t you miss fashion suggestions from a woman while dressing up?
Shipra – Men are excellent critics, to be honest. They only know yes & no for an answer, unlike women who get confused. *laughs* That’s because we love everything!
JWB – So the 3 men help?
Shipra – In particular, my younger son who is 11 has a brilliant fashion taste. When he says – ‘Mom, something doesn’t look nice’, I consider changes.
JWB – Awesome! Now it’s time for some rapid-fire questions.
Shipra – Oh my god!
JWB – 3 must-haves for SS15?
Shipra – Maxi dress, Skirt and few fashionable neck pieces (both long and chokers).
JWB – Fashion tip that can save us the embarrassment.
Shipra – A nice hairdo!
JWB – Stay away from?
Shipra – BLING. No more of it, please. Better get a sparkling accessory. Prada and Marni have brought in some amazing gem-studded footwear on the runway this season.
JWB – How to shop smart during the season’s sale?
Shipra – Look out for basic clothing like a classic white shirt, a monotone kurti, a pair of blue denim and for that matter, nude heels!
JWB – Any message!
Shipra – To be in fashion, you should be in shape. No matter what size, but stay in shape. Bulges can spoil any designer couture.
